i went for the gts as it was marked most popular. and after reading the reviews of each card i believed the gts to be the better option.
I'm gutted to hear that the gt is better.only because if i knew i would of got that one. do you know how much performance i'm losing with the gts.

You're not! The GTS is better than the GT

You can see the full review here- http://www.fpslabs.com/reviews/video/nv ... 512-review

But here are the bits to make you smile :)

So we’ve got this 8800GTS 512 and it’s kind of in a weird position. It is definitely better than the 8800GT that we reviewed just over a month ago, and although it is close, you can definitely say it beats out the 8800GTX as well.

The price is also a bit weird. At somewhere in the $299 to $349 range, the 8800GTS 512 definitely constitutes what we would consider a worthy jump from the 8800GT.

What isn’t confusing, however, is that the 8800GTS 512 beats the 8800GTX in a lot of tests on very early drivers and can only get better over time.

And if that's not convinced you check this out-

Debatable Phenom. The 4870 x2 doesn't have DirectX 11 and some other nice little features that the new 5850, 5870 and 5970's have. So it depends where you want pure FPS power or eye candy and features.

I'd say some 5870's would probably outperform the 4870x2 and of course the 5970 deffinitely does.

So there's my answer :) The 5970.

P.S. Nvidia messed up again with the GTX 480, it just isn't powerful enough.
