Graphics card heat

Postby alexdocherty » 09 Oct 2011, 00:10

I bought my computer a few years ago, and it's eben playing up for awhile (running hot, overheating playing somewhat graphically intensive games, not recovering from an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout (despite having the most recent driver) and a host of other problems.
While I've been able to live with it for the most part, and still can, I am fairly interested in getting it fixed.

There were three questions I was curious about though.
a) If there is a fault with the graphics card, will you replace the card for free, or will I have to cover the cost?
b) How long would it take to test, replace the card and ship back (assuming that there is a problem with the card, rather than something I've overlooked.
c) The problem may be a dust build up, although it's a few years old (I bought it in 2009), I was wondering if trying to remove the dust would make you not take a look at it (as I know some companies, especially laptop ones are more restrictive on such actions)?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, I figure I should note: the graphics card fan does work, but will occasionally speed up (seemingly at random times and for random durations, but I've never actually measured it). If that affects anything or not.

Graphics card heat

Hi Alex,

The graphics card is out of warranty now so it could not be replaced. If this is the faulty part your only option would be to purchase a new card. The old card has a used part value even with it not working of about £25 the replacement model to the same spec would be a card like an ATI HD 6770 which would cost you about £85. We do not sell components but you could buy it from any company and add it to the PC.

I would suggest for removing dust that you buy a can of dust off which will spray the dust out and cost you only a few pounds.
Regards
Steve
