We did offer external links but then noticed traffic would leave the site and follow new routes so we stopped doing it which has since then kept traffic on the site.
I personally think it's better to have external links but if it means people leave the site mid way of doing a PC spec then it's best we don't give them that option.

Yes , I can understand that. If your stats show that then it's a difficult dilemma. Why I really like your site is because it is NOT offering an endless plethora of anything & everthing. You always seem to focus on and offer industry standard recognised excellence, from mid to hi spec systems/components.
But, then I can only suggest you might need more work on your specification pages, to keep people focused on your pages.
Here's an example of a GPU I just bought for £245.34. It shows on the /custom/corei7/Graphics Card page as:
ATI Radeon HD 5870 - 1 GB - 2xDVI/HDMI (Asus) (PCI-E)
And yet when I look at your specs page for it, the edition and/or ASUS part number is not stated, and connectivity shows difference:
1 x DisplayPort
1 x Dual Link DVI-I
1 x HDMI
Also, ASUS produces several editions of this card, perhaps most important is they produce EAH5870/2DIS/1GD5 & EAH5870/2DIS/1GD5/V2 (version 2)
Steve in customer services was good enough to confirmed it as V2.
What I'm trying to say is for 250 quid, I don't want too much ambiguity.
I'm really on side with you here, I mean for all the aggravation, e-mails & potential disapointment that can turn people off, if I know precisely what what I'm signing-up for and paying for, then we're good to go!
I completely understand the valid importance of keeping focus on the build pages, but, and I can only speak for myself, as soon as I come across some inconcistency or ambiguity, then I'm going to head for the manufacturer pages - and to be completely honest, be a bit p**sed of that I have to.
Regards.
